1. It wouldn't be as toxic as it might be otherwise! Instead of actually being poisoned, it might be akin to a mild sense of food poisoning/eating something bad.

2. They are not very strong once removed from the water. Their strength wanes the longer they are out but even to start, they're probably 2/3 as powerful as normal.

3. They do not! At least, not to any outsiders.

4. For the daytime mermaids, they have an extra heart and physiologically smaller organs. The night time species has, of course, their gaping abdomens but also smaller organs yet no second heart.

5. There is! While they appear to avoid each other and swim in their own schools, they are aware of one another.
